The Fashion Collective NYC: A Touch of Autumn

If you love fashion, food and enjoy a night on the town you will love this event. I had the pleasure of attending The Fashion Collective’s launch event this past August and I had a great time! First let me tell you more about The Fashion Collective Series. Creator Saidat Abiodun pictured with Stylist Ilbert J. Sanchez and his models

It is a dinner party created by freelance fashion producer Saidat Abidoun. The event caters to fashion lovers in the New York City area. Each month they highlight the work of one stylist and designer. At the event the designer’s collection will be showcased and styled by an upcoming stylist in the form of a small fashion presentation.

My night out took place in Harlem. When I arrived, I was greeted by a quaint French restaurant

with outdoor and indoor seating however, this wasn’t your typical French restaurant. It was adorned with iconic figures in African American pop culture such as Grace Jones, Basquiat and Michael Jackson. From the placemats to the walls and bar top, it was absolutely beautiful.

Each place setting had a customized menu card that favored the outfits of one of the models. The evening started with drinks and light mingling as the venue filled up, followed by the fashion presentation and concluding with a delicious meal.

The man of the hour was personal stylist and clothing designer, Ilbert J. Sanchez. He specializes in fine menswear and discussed how a gentleman can prepare his wardrobe in the fall in a presentation entitled “A Touch of Autumn.” He explained how to take a simple suit up a notch with different accessories and colors. Although the presentation was primarily about menswear as a woman it was very insightful: helping me understand how I can help the men in my life put together an outfit. Learn more about Ilbert in my interview with him below.
