PARIS-- Serena Williams: #BlackGirlMagic and quite possibly the greatest athlete alive, won her 20th Grand Slam and third in a row by beating Lucie Safarova 6-3, 6-7 (2), 6-2. Although battling the flu and blowing a 4-1 advantage, Williams recovered and unsurprisingly to many, took the win.
With this major victory, Serena is on course for a Grand Slam year and is closing on the the record of 22 majors held by Steffi Graf. To take the record, Williams would need to win all four majors in a year-- something last accomplished by Graf did it in 1988.
Of the challenge ahead, her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou said:
"I think it's the most difficult thing to do in tennis," Mouratoglou told reporters. "That's why it doesn't happen often. But as she won the first two, why not believe it's possible? And second, with her, everything is possible."
We believe Serena is at her best and can certainly take the record. In the meantime, we are basking in her Black Girl Flyness and celebrating this amazing win.
