BGF Spotlight: Christina Davis

by Janae D. Knox

Originating from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Christina Davis is a full-time dance instructor who most recently moved to Los Angeles, California to follow her dreams of becoming an established dance performer. Along side becoming a dancer to be reckoned with, Davis also dreams of one day opening up her own dance studio. By doing so she hopes to set an example for younger generations to not only chase their dreams, but also to not be afraid of exploring beyond the community they come from.

Davis began dancing at the tender age of five. She channeled her emotions into body movements as a way to express herself. Her love for freestyle dance got her on BET’s Lens On Talent dance competition, where she won. Humble as they come, Davis is most proud of the fact that she was able to move from Philly to LA with little money, and not knowing what was next for her.

Through her work ethic and outgoing personality she was able to land a spot in the “8th wonder” performance, a popular show in LA, where she was noticed and asked to journey to China with several Chinese artists. Her ability to “go for it” brought her to Korea, Nanning, Dalian, Guangau and many more foreign cities, where she spent four months networking with celebrities. Artists she has worked with include: Lil MaMa, Shane Sparks, KeKe Palmer, Eric Bellinger and Meagan Good.

In addition, when asked, “Why Are Black Girls Fly?”, Christina responded with, “Black Girls Are Fly because we are strong! We are able to fight through situations even if it feels like we have no one to lean on. We are independent, beautiful and passionate about anything we put our mind to. We make it happen”.
